Introduction

My goal is simple: do something creative every day. Easy to say. Easy to do? I don’t know. I’m not kidding myself. This is going to be difficult. I don’t keep to schedules well. I don’t keep up with things. I have a hard time finishing projects.

So I’m setting myself this goal. I will create one new thing every day — be it a short story, an essay, a photo, a painting, a poem, or anything else creative — and I will post it here for the world to see.

A lot of it is going to be crap. I’m sorry, Mom… it’s true. I’m going to do my best, but sometimes my best can be pretty lousy. I know I’m not a great artist, and that’s fine. I like to think that sometimes, if things go right, I can be a good artist. And I can live with that.

What do I hope to gain from this? Well, two things really:

  1. I want to set myself a goal that stretches my limits and then act on it.
  2. I want to work on being a more creative person, and improve my skills.
  3. I want to explore the nature of creativity in all its forms, and in so doing gain a better understanding of myself and the world around me.

If all goes well maybe I’ll become a better artist. Perhaps I’ll even come out a wiser and better person. But if nothing else comes of this project, at least I’ll have those things that I’ve made. And that is a reward in and of itself.

So here goes nothing…
